This is an attempt for me to catch up on a few fun things or new things I have done or been involved in this past year (after St. Patrick's Day since that was pretty much my last post--this will be tricky since my calendar is white board style and so I erase it every month)!
Earlier This Year--Part 1
Sometime in the Spring, our Stake Relief Society was involved in a secret project. The Stake R.S. Presidency were in cahoots about piecing a quilt for our wonderful Stake President, Pres. Willardson.
They asked for any and all to make a 9 1/2 inch quilt block with the theme of land and sky and using only blue and white fabrics.
I thought, how wonderful! I want to do this! The only problem is that I really don't know much about quilting--and my mother-in-law, who is an avid quilter, was away serving a mission in Nauvoo, IL. So, my mentor (if I ever wanted to be a quilter) was across the country. But, I knew if I wanted to begin a quilt block that mom's was a great place to find some fabric--which is half the battle.
I searched the internet for a sailboat quilt block to copy-cat and found one right quick...

I raided mom's fabric stash and found some fabrics that would be perfect for my little project. I spent about two hours cutting and appliqueing and sewing on the border--phew! I am so proud of my first completed quilt block! It is now on a full size quilt that was presented to President Willardson!
