Tales to Tell

For some odd reason blogger would not let me sign in to my own blog. I could read and leave comments on all of yours, but I just couldn't post on my own (weird!).

We've been keeping busy and having a lot of fun times this summer, here goes...

June 11th--14th: Shepherd Family Reunion was a success (phew!). We all had a nice place to sleep, plenty of food and things to do. It rained quite a bit, but in between the rain we had a treasure hunt, went to the local park for a game of kickball, took a drive to the Clifton, ID cemetary for some geneology updates...I'm just glad it all turned out.

Then, off to Girl's Camp I went. Our Stake theme was "Treasures of the Heart" which incorporated a pirate/treasure island theme and encouraged the young women to evaluate what they truly treasure most. Our ward was camped at Fairy Falls. By the end of the week, however, we were known as the WICKED FAIRIES. Needless to say, some wards did not appreciate some of our harmless pranks. I LOVE camp, especially as a leader! It's always a great time to make friends with the girls, see their silly side and discover each other's true colors.

June 21st: Father's Day Fun (previous post)

July 4th: Brian's parents always host a flag raising ceremony on the Fourth at their giantic flag pole with a little program and a continental breakfast. So we got up, got ready and headed to the flag pole at 7 a.m. Mom always serves her famous cinnamon rolls and so rising early is totally worth it! And it's a great way to begin the celebrations. Normally, we go to the Freedom Festival parade, but we opted out this year and stayed at Brian's parents for a day of fishing. Well, we really just wanted to catch a fish for lunch, but since we lost 3 hooks in the fish (because the line wasn't strong enough) we grabbed something different and fished for dinner. This time we had 30 lb fishing line and were sure to catch some BIG trout. Sure enough a big one took the bait and broke the pole so it, too, got away with a scrumptous worm. We really did hook at least 4 ginormous trout, but they all wiggled their way off and away. Sheesh!! I have decided that fishing is not for me--it requires patience and tranquility (I possess neither). By nightfall the wind started to blow and so the fireworks thing didn't really work out, either. Bumber! But we had a good time anyway!

July 11th: Last Saturday we went down to the park for the Scottish Festival. I always cry when I hear the mass bands--it's embarrasing. We had a good time sitting around with the family and browsing the vendor tents and bumping into some Payson folks.

We've been to a couple of the FREE movies at the Spanish Fork theatre, tried out the Payson Aquatic Center, been on a hike, and have done a few family service projects throughout the summer (but it's not over 'till the fat lady sings)

UP NEXT: This opportunity ALWAYS takes the cake to starting the Summer off on the right foot....the annual cattle drive that goes right past our house! Gotta love all the cow pies they leave behind.
My favorite? Cows and Marlboro men running the RED light! Ha! Ha!

(never fear--there haven't been any fatalities yet)

It's hard to believe that school starts in just 5 weeks!! AHHHH!!
