A Bunch of Ramblings

...about our Family Reunion trip to Northern Califorina....well, it was really, really humid and it made the buttons stick on our camera and therefore it is now broken forever. So, no pictures to share. But here are a couple of funny traveling stories:


Story #1
Driving from Patrick's Point State Park to Redding, CA is a 2 hour, 60 mph winding road through the mountains with a few tiny towns along the way. Right now several areas of that highway are being refurbished and that means CONSTRUCTION. Not just one lane, mind you, but flaggers galore! We would have to stop in a line of cars and wait for the cars coming the other direction to pass by then they would stop and let us pass. Good times! Jacob expressed his need to use the bathroom so we found a pull-out and stopped. The kind police officer behind us spoke into his loud speaker, "you can't pull off in a construction zone." What? The whole road is a construction zone! Luckily, there was a flagger man up ahead who stopped us. We opened the van door and had Jacob stay in the car, but pee out the door--it was quite hilarious. So what was the police officer to do now?

Story #2
Phew! We were getting close to home on the Nevada/Utah border near the salt flats and we stopped for a break at a REST STOP. Some are very nice and well kept, but this one was pretty junky. While we were enjoying our little snack lunch, two Harley-Davidson's roared up next to our van. They dismounted and walked around for a while. We were all getting ready to "hit the road" about the same time when Thomas says, "I think we should go make friends with those guys". After a few minutes of chatting Thomas found out that they were traveling from California (a different part than we had been) and that the guy, his wife, his son and daughter-in-law were road tripping across the western part of the country. Thomas asked them how fast their motorcycles go--it was pretty cute! The guy reached in his leather vest and gave Thomas a sticker that says--

Evidently this is a rare gift according to the guy's wife. You never know what will happen when you choose to be a little friendly!
