Twas the First Day of School

Twas the first day of school and all through the house,

All the children were rising not quiet as a mouse,

The kids ate breakfast and all got dressed,

Brushed their teeth but their hair was all a mess.

The questions began, “is it time to go yet”?

“Just one more hour, please do not fret”

The clock finally said it was time to head out,

The kids with their backpacks started to shout.

“Let’s go, let’s go before we are late!”

To be slow on the first day would be their worst fate.

They ran into school as happy as can be,

And I thought to myself, “What’s next?” Golly gee!
